Young people have woken up much of the world with their powerful Fridays For Future school strikes for the climate. However, millions of adults are joining in the London Climate Strike. A huge wave of that will kickstart renewed action all over the world. So, the urgency of the climate crisis requires a new approach and a just response centred on human rights, equity, and justice. What do young people demand in the climate strike?
DEMAND 1-SAVE THE FUTURE
The Government declare a climate emergency and implement a Green New Deal to achieve Climate Justice.
DEMAND 2-TEACH THE FUTURE
The government must reform the education system to teach young people about the urgency, severity and scientific basis of the climate crisis.
DEMAND 3-TELL THE FUTURE
The Government communicate the severity of the ecological crisis and the necessity to act now to the general public.
DEMAND 4-EMPOWER THE FUTURE
Young people must be included in policy making. No one should be excluded from participation in our democracy on the basis of age. For their citizenship, permanent address, incarceration or anything else. For as long as the UK government conducts democracy through a representative system. Everyone living in the UK over the age of 16 must have the right to vote in elections. For instance, The ruling powers must conduct these via proportional representation. So, our government considers everyone’s vote and each one is worth the same.
